Dear Friends:
With great joy we have learned that the 400 medical computers collected by INFOMED-US and others, and seized from the IFCO/Pastors for Peace VI Friendshipment Caravan early in 1996 are finally going to Cuba in September. Congratulations to all those whose efforts achieved this success for the solidarity with Cuba movement of the U.S.!
While the struggle for the sized caravan computers was enduring, some 70 computers were received by Cuba's INFOMED, in a clear expression of determination and ingenuity of the U.S. solidarity movement.
Global Exchange and INFOMED-US invite you to expand your support for our brothers and sisters in Cuba by supporting developmental projects which have potential benefits for the whole population, among then INFOMED, the Cuban medical electronic network, and CUBA SOLAR, the network of alternative energy researchers of the island nation. Further information on each of these projects is included with this letter.
We invite you to initiate in your home-town a "Cuba's Computer Project" to support with hardware these Cuban efforts. Use your outreach and organization skills to put the word out and to recruit volunteers to:
As soon as you have a couple of people willing to take the lead in this project contact our national coordinator David Wald: Phone: (408) 243-4359, Fax: (408) 243-1229, Email: david@cubasolidarity.net, and request the guidelines on how to inspect, repair and package of the donated materials:
Thousands of old computers are wasting in people's garages! They can be vehicles for communicating, learning, sharing, researching, informing, discussing, planning, experimenting and building ! Let's get real! Let's help link the possibilities!
